Lyrics: Michal Elia Kamal
Language: Hebrew
This song describes my connection with my childhood and culture, and my desire to share those memories with others. The imagery of "smells that simmered all night" and "vapors that carry memories not from here" create a sense of nostalgia and take the listeners to a scene from my childhood.
I grew up in Tel Aviv by the Mediterranean sea, into a very Persian home, I was a child who lived between those two cultures. Part of this song is sharing with the listeners the naïve and imaginative perspective of me as a child. Sentences such as: “And I'm on a Persian carpet, As in the stories of a thousand and one nights, Crossing the Middle East in the air”, are an expression of the imagined world and a way to express a connection with the culture and a sense of pride in it. “Mountains of rice, hills of saffron” refers to the Persian rice my mom used to make every Friday for the weekend, and to the heals and mountains of Iran I couldn’t ever visit.
lyrics
Khi -Take
In my childhood, on Friday
Smells that simmered all night, night
Vapors that carry memories not from here
Midday sun, through an open window
Behind a curtain to the Mediterranean Sea,
Surfing the tunnel of time
And I'm on a Persian carpet
As in the stories of a thousand and one nights
Crossing the Middle East in the air
And my eyes are stars lit up
All day, lit all night
Hymns are waiting on the tip of the tongue
So take it
my eyes, take
And start seeing
What I saw a long ago
So take it
take my heart
And feel
What I felt inside
So take my legs take
And start running
Beyond time
so take
take my hands
And hold tight
So you won't fall
Mountains of rice, hills of saffron
Views and sights I may never see
Changing, passing by
Past and future in one moment
Give me your hand and you'll never be alone again
Dreams come true to my eyes
And I'm on a Persian carpet
As in the stories of a thousand and one nights
Crossing the Middle East in the air
and starry eyes that light up
All day, lit all night
Hymns are waiting on the tip of the tongue

i like this version better than the original. The middle part has that aggression that makes the excellent balance with the beginning and ending of the song. owlobo
the music is like the picture, full of power an warmth, remembering on celtic myth of fertility. There's even a song about St. Johns day (Rana na Ivana), the ancient summer solstice.

Like their earlier albums, Laboratorium Pieśni comes back with great vocals, with the added benefit of more instrumentals on the back of the track. It's a wonderful folk album, and I suggest giving it a listen. witcheroid
